Design Observationist...

...did you know that a line of type should not be more than 17 to 21 words long?

...why? you wonder...

...because anything longer in a body of type or bodycopy becomes illegible as the eye

travels from a line of type or bodycopy to the next line of type. Try it!

Meanwhile, frequently web sites and graphic design outputs appear to ignore this,

making interactions a thoroughly uncomfortable exercise

...some of the erm best examples are generated by universities and government.

Is it too structured to teach legibility in design school?

Or is this a product of NO design school, along the lines that everyone's a designer?
